NO ONE'S EXEMPT. WE'RE ALL GUILTY. WE MUST CONFRONT OUR BIASES—KNOWN & UNKNOWN.

What is Implicit Bias?

A preference, of which we are not aware, that influences our common and everyday decisions and impressions typically resulting in subtle, unintentional and unconscious discrimination.

CONFRONTING IMPLICIT BIAS AT A GLANCE

WORKPLACE BIAS TRAINING (60 MINUTE SESSION)

If everyone enters the workplace with bias how can companies end workplace discrimination?

Through thought exercise and discussion, workplace bias training teaches participants how to identify and manage their biases. Successful implicit bias training contributes to improved diversity and fair treatment of staff, job candidates, and business partners. This training strategy forces participants to acknowledge that racial bias exists. Once that is established, the presentation uses an effective blend of media, group exercises, studies, and personal experiences to push participants to examine how they view and interact with coworkers/students/business partners who are of different ethnic groups. For example, training participants consider how they may review a candidate’s job application, a colleague’s work product, or a student’s assignment. Ultimately, the training provides information to help individuals better understand each other and achieve greater social harmony within an organization.

DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE SEMINAR (60 MINUTE SESSION)

The importance of socially responsible business models is growing, the presence of minorities at all organizational levels is increasing, and different entities often value and stress the importance of diversity when hiring.

This seminar addresses the importance of diversity and multiculturalism in the workplace. Some topics covered include:

  • How does an organization’s social climate and perceived institutional barriers create hostile learning and/or work environments for students and/or employees of color?

  • Why is diversity a business necessity to attract and retain job applicants, employees, students, clients/customers/business partners?

A combined 90 minute session is also offered.
